Back on the podium
As they did in Doha last year, the Cervélo Bigla Pro Cycling Team claimed team time trial bronze at the UCI Road World Championships in Bergen, Norway.
Lotta Lepisto, Lisa Klein, Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig, Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio, Clara Koppenburg and Stephanie Gaumnitz navigated the 42.5km course in 56:09 on their Cervélo P5s. While the bronze-medal result was the same as last year, the shrinking margin of victory — just 28 seconds — speaks volumes about the team’s progress in 2017.
“Of course we have the same medal as last year and would have liked better, but the positive is we’re that much closer now,” said team leader Moolman-Pasio. “Last year the gap to the gold medal was a lot bigger, and every year we’re getting closer. We have a really young team so I think we can be proud of our effort today.” The six athletes will now join their respective national federations for the rest of the championships where they will line up in the individual time trial and road races.
